ABROAD VOLUNTEER IN DELHI

We offer several volunteer programs including Childcare, English Teaching and community development work in slum area of Delhi. Interested individuals would be able to live and work together with the locals, meet other volunteers from across the globe.

This is an excellent program and really enjoyed it. Our only problem is our stay is bit short but we will come back. People and children are very nice. Good place to work and stay. I enjoyed the food lot and accommodation was nice and comfortable.

Flexibility: You can choose your own start date and end date!
Meaningful: You will experience worthwhile and fulfilling volunteer projects serving our local community.

Why should I pay to Volunteers?
Although volunteering is a great way to give your time, it does come with a cost in order for you to live comfortably while volunteering within our program. Your fees will help cover the cost of paying our staff (driver & cook) along with accommodating you with a safe, comfortable living environment; which include daily amenities, two meals a day, and internet access. A partial sum of your fee will also help our programs continue to run and help the children we serve.

How do I choose a program options?
Make sure you look at the two different kinds of programs we offer - The "Volunteer & Travel" option has set dates throughout the year and it is the most popular option available. Under this option there are four different programs for you to choose from. If none of these options fit your schedule you can do the "Volunteer Only" program which allows you to volunteer anytime for as many weeks as you like would like.

Do I need experiences, special skills to be a volunteer at Sankalp?
No, you don't need any special skills. We are happy to welcome everyone that is enthusiastic and driven to help other people. It's necessary to speak English since it is the language we use to communicate, but it's perfectly fine if English is your second language. You'll also be able to improve your level of English here, as you'll be speaking it constantly.

How it is safe?
At Sankalp we make safety a high priority for each and every volunteer and staff member that join our program. Our program has been running for several years and we have had the great joy in welcoming hundreds of volunteers into our program, please trust that we have extensive experience in caring and protecting all of our volunteers. We do not conduct any program that could in any possible way jeopardize the safety of any volunteer or staff member. We are very proud of our ongoing commitment and provision of safety for all that join our team. In the past 8 years we have had hundreds of volunteers within the age group of 16-65 years of age, with a maximum of 30 volunteers at the house, with no miss-happening to anyone in our program. In order to continue our priority and contract with safety, our organization maintains very set rules and regulations. "I think this programme is very well set up. I have really enjoyed my time here, both meeting the local people and the other volunteers. The programme provided a safe and welcoming environment which made my experience of India really positive. I really encouraged experiencing the different aspect of India's culture and getting to work with the street children was a very rewarding experience. The people in the community and the children were all very friendly and welcoming. The accommodation is excellent - it is very well kept and has great facilities- broadband, DVD player etc. The food was lovely and there was a good variety of food provided. The team and staff in work area all brilliant. They are all friendly and helpful which helped me to settled into the different culture and enjoys the experience. A day in the life of a volunteer

On working days, volunteers get up and have breakfast before heading out to their volunteer sites. Our staff provides transportation to and from the volunteer site of your choice. At the volunteer site, you will spend approximately four hours. Lunch is provided by family. Open afternoons provide volunteers the opportunity to explore the city and learn about the local culture and customs. Evening meals provide another exciting chance to enjoy authentic food provided by host family. The food is delicious and healthy and takes full advantage of local cooking traditions. The weekends are free time, where you can choose to relax or explore the local area. Volunteers often travel to other parts of the country on the weekends. If you don't know where to go don't worry; ask the staff, they are always happy to make recommendations.

Program Orientation

Next day of your arrival we organized an orientation for each program where you will gain an understanding on the entire volunteer program, introduction to rules and regulation of the organization, Indian history, its culture and traditions.

Accommodation

We offer comfortable accommodation with easy approach to project sites for the volunteers.

On placement, you ought to live with a middle class local Indian family in a remote area. A separate living-room on dual or triple sharing basis with other volunteers will be provided but you should not expect luxury on your stay and it is different from what you are used to at home.

Host family will serve three local area meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). You may help the host(s) in preparing the meals so that you may learn cooking of various India dishes, which would be liked by your mates when you go back home. You may also cook food of your own choice. Living with Indian families will prove for you the best track of learning the Indian tradition, culture and behaviour without much cost and effort.
