Feedback from Volunteers
I enjoyed the children and appreciated the support the volunteer and I gave to each other.
The orphanage was very rewarding and tough. I enjoyed the children and appreciated the support the volunteer and I gave to each other. The volunteer house was wonderful. The food was delicious. The staff was very accommodating. Loved all the people I met. Loved the free time we had to explore Jaipur and thought that we were well - taken care of! The week end trips were great. The Hotels and transportation was quite good. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for everything! I will definitely recommend it.
The weekend trips have been lot of fun, and a nice break from work.
I think Sankalp is a great organization, and my stay here has been much more pleasant than I could ever hope for. The children are lovely, and with the nursery I think you will make a big improvement that will make the work a lot more comfortable for the volunteers and the work much more valuable for the kids. The weekend trips have been lot of fun, and a nice break from work. My wishes are that Sankalp continues to do its good work and continue to improve and grow. I have had a great time, and after this I will definitely do some more volunteering. I have experienced many cultural differences, mainly in how a child is raised, but also I have learned about how other people live their lives and how the other society runs. That was what I came for. I do not regret coming here. The children are very sweet, and I started caring for all of them, and I am sad to leave. It is clear that they have a lack of care and attention in their lives, so it is great that Sankalp welcome volunteers to give them a little bit of what they need. The food and the accommodation have been great. I feel safe in this area. I would recommend Sankalp. Sankalp has given me a good experience and the staff has been very helpful.
The Work and Travel program was a great way to work and see different parts of India.
Sankalp is doing a great job creating a better environment or the kids at the orphanage. The Work and Travel program was a great way to work and see different parts of India and learn about the history and culture. It was a little overwhelming at first because it was very different from home. What when I got used to it, and got used to it and got to know the kids it was easier. I felt that me being there meant a lot to the kids, and it meant a lot to me too. I really enjoyed working enjoyed working with the children. They have a lot of energy so it was tiring, but fun. The accommodation has been good. I have felt safe during my stay here. The food here is very good. I recommend Sankalp. I have had a very good experience.
I had really positive, informative and insightful experience.
I took part in work and travel program and supported the youngest group of children in the Street children school. I had really positive, informative and insightful experience. It was interesting to gain an understanding of the similarities and difference between the education systems both here and back home in the U.K. There are obvious culture and system differences in what is considered as priority and appropriate in terms of access to play, curriculum, emotional well being. The accommodation has been comfortable even though basic. It was great having a communal place to eat, relax and watch TV. The week end trips were great and a good contrast to the work aspect of the project. Journeys though sometimes long were made manageable with regular comfort breaks. The Drives were most helpful & courteous. Modes of transportation were comfortable. Hotels were wonderful. All in all excellent tours! I will definitely recommend to friend and family.
It was nice to be allowed to create bonding experiences.
I was happy to have the opportunity to work on the women Empowerment program. It was nice to be allowed to create bonding experiences. For me, I saw this as a support group for younger women (girls aged 10 -15) and women in intensely busy period of their lives - with young children - some with demanding Parents. Or in-laws and with jobs!!! I was very happy to draw out the women and let them improve their English in fun ways. One day for example I bought a magazine called "People". They were excited to see pictures and stories of their favorite stars, and it generated much conversation. The girls had intense energy. I promoted learning through games and a lot of talking. Their writing skills were all strong. I felt it was important to get them to speak as much as possible. I would like to say Thank you to Sankalp for this opportunity. The food and the accommodation were fine. Amita is very caring. Amita and Pranay clearly want these projects to be successful and do their best to accomplish that. House staff and the driver were very nice. I would definitely recommend Sankalp to others.
I loved it because the children are amazing and smart.
I love my experience with this
organization. The home was in a safe part of Jaipur.
I worked with streets kids and I loved it because
the children are amazing and smart. I'm gonna miss
them so much. I really think that this program make
a difference in their life. For the travel part, I
enjoyed each moment of the trip. I mean we did
pretty much everything that I wanted to see in the
Rajasthan. We went to Pushkar, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur,
Agra and Ranthambore. Each destination has a charm
and I liked pretty much all. I will definitely
recommand it to my friends and maybe I'm gonna come
The children were great; it was a pleasure working with them.
I really enjoyed teaching English to the children of the street Kids program. They were smart, curious and wanted to learn. The children were great; it was a pleasure working with them. The time we spent with the street children was memorable and I will never forget the time I have spent with them I also had a great experience. The work and Travel was a great combination or both to get to know the country. It was a great experience. Pushkar, Jaisalmer, and the camel Safari were the highlights of the traveling. Accommodation and the food were good. I will definitely recommend
I found Jaipur an interesting location. Rich history and beautiful sites.
While my time on the program was very short
(just 2 weeks). I really enjoyed this opportunity to
work with women and girls on women empowerment
initiatives. I enjoyed the experience to learn more
about the lives, challenges and realities of women
in this region, and to help them develop skills and
confidence to set goals and achieve them. It was a
wonderful experience to live like locals do, and
learn about Indian culture. I found Jaipur an
interesting location. Rich history and beautiful
sites, People friendly. Accommodation and food was
very good. Comfortable rooms, beds & house. The food
was very good - authentic style delicious food. I
worked with one other volunteer for 2 days and it
was great to partner with her. It was helpful for
each of us to be able to each focus with a group and
work on different skills (language & Computer). I
would recommend Sankalp to others.
Thank you for making this a wonderful experience!
The weekend trips were very well organised.
I loved my time at Sankalp! I chose the work & travel option, so week days were spent teaching English to street kids, and weekends were spent touring around Rajasthan. The weekend trips were very well organised and it was so nice to have the opportunity to see other parts of Rajasthan with the new friends gained through volunteering. The kids were gorgeous! Meals provided at the house were always delicious and filling. I'll always remember my time spent with Sankalp and I highly recommend this program. Thanks for the opportunity!
They have good hearts and genuinely care about their volunteers, children and the success of the programs.
I have always wanted to travel to India and volunteer so when I finally decided to do it I spent a lot of time researching organisation after organisation to find the right fit. I was looking for a good variety of program / volunteer work choices, good and safe location and good value for money. Sankalp (Shake Hands India Volunteer) ticked all these boxes and seemed too good to be true. I sent many emails to Sankalp prior to booking and arriving and they always replied back within hours and answered all my questions. I decided to participate in the Work and Travel program option. On weekdays I work on the Street Kids program, teaching english and maths to children who live on the street and are the poorest of the poor here in Jaipur. They are the most adorable kids you'll ever meet. They are so clever and so eager to learn. The organisation provide all transport to and from work. On weekends I travel with a group of people from the volunteer house. I visited Agra and the Taj Mahal, Pushkar, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Ranthambore, went on a Tiger Safari and best of all went on a Camel Safari in the Desert where we slept under the stars on the sand dunes. Incredible. We are transported by lovely drivers in private air conditioned cars and mini buses and stay in beautiful hotels. I am here at a busy time with the house having twenty volunteers at the moment. The house is beautiful and very big, it's always clean and cool with western style toilets, hot water and internet at cheap prices and is situated in a nice and safe neighbourhood close to supermarkets and a short rickshaw ride to the city center. I was here for Holi festival and the Jaipur elephant festival which were so much fun. Punni, the cook and house mum as we refer to her, cooks the volunteers delicious lunches and dinners everyday which isn't spicy at all which is good for those like me who can't handle it (but their is always chilli available for those who do). Amita and Pranay, the couple who run the organisation, are lovely and always willing to answer your questions and help with your problems. On the rare occasion that we have a problem they fix it straight away. They make sure that we are happy and safe without being over bearing and controlling which is nice. We have curfew at 10pm but this is purely for your safety and I think reasonable. They have good hearts and genuinely care about their volunteers, children and the success of the programs.
I really enjoyed the 5 day trip to Pushkar, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur.
The volunteer program has been great and the kids are amazing! I learned a lot about India, about people, and children and about myself. I've seen some amazing things happening with the children in the orphanage (eg magic show, first step, big changes in personality). The children are very sweet and resilient. I hope they grow up to have an independent and wonderful life! They deserve much love and attention. The food was delicious! Accommodation was very good. Also I really enjoyed the 5 day trip to Pushkar, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. I really had fun and it was great to see those places and do a camel Safari and sleep in the desert. I am very thankful to Sankalp to organize this trip. I will definitely recommend it to others.
I really enjoyed my five weeks here. It was even better than expected.
I really enjoyed my five weeks here. It was even better than expected. The women empowerment programme was great and the volunteer house in a really good location. Jaipur particularly was a great base to explore Rajasthan and its surrounding cities and attraction. Also I think Sankalp is good value compare to other volunteer programmes and definitely has more of charity, rather than a business fed to it. The Sankalp team seems to genuinely care about the work programs and the people and children they are benefiting. I really loved the house and felt very cozy in my little bed! Food was delicious. All the staff was great. Amita and Pranay are great at holding everything together. I will definitely recommend Sankalp to my friend and family. And also I may come back next year!!
I have loved getting to know all the children individually.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working in the orphanage, although at times is has been sad and challenging. I have loved getting to know all the children individually. I loved turning up to the orphanage and seeing all the kds faces light up and them wanting to be held and cuddled and played with. I thoroughly enjoyed the food here. Our room was very comfortable. Pranay and Amita have been very caring when we were ill - turning up at the orphanage to check up on us like your mummy and daddy would! I definitely would recommend Sankalp! I think this will be an experience I won't ever be able to forget!
