"Shake Hands has been the perfect introduction to India thanks to the amazing hospitality and the friendly staff. Working with the children put a smile to my face and I was amazed by the speed in which they warmed tours and how eager they were to learn. It is going to be a hard place to say goodbye to! Shake Hands is doing a fantastic job and I would undoubtedly recommended this experience to anyone of any age”  - Milly Andrewes, UK

Why volunteers pay?

Many volunteers ask us, why should I pay for volunteering in India?

The answer is that volunteers who travel abroad need accommodations, food, in-country transportation, and to ensure their safety while living abroad. Thus the fee paid by the volunteer is fed to following heads of expenditure:

Services to volunteer (50%)
Following are the head of expenditure on which 50% program fee is spent:

- Food and accommodation setup
- Delhi/local airport pickups and transfers
- Hotel stays
- Daily transportation to project site
- Orientation and local area visit

Administration and Volunteer Recruitment (30%)
Without administration and volunteer recruitment funds, organization would not be able to sustain its current operations. And you, the volunteer, would not be able to receive the personalized attention and around-the-clock support that we currently offer. The 30% allocation of funds is distributed to following sub-heads:

Administration (20%) - The general administration cost supports office staff and the field coordinators in each District where we run programs. It is a fact that no organization could be operate without overhead fund that goes toward:

- Staff salaries
- Communications – IT, Telephone, Email Postage
- General office supplies
- Legal consultation
- Rent for project site offices
- Taxes
- Vehicles and maintenance

Volunteer Recruitment (10%) - Sankalp takes volunteers directly without support of any of the placing agencies therefore following sub-sub heads need to be funded:

- Website maintenance and promotions
- Communications: Brochures, E-newsletters, international phone calls etc.
- Web advertising

Program Development (20%)
Organization consistently strives to improve the quality of its programs. In addition, organization measures the impact it has on local communities at the end of each year and makes assessments as to how serve them better and meet their needs. Program development includes ongoing program evaluations, improvement planning and management; searching and setting new project avenues that could benefit battered women and children. Since project participants are absolute needy ones and therefore they are to be provided all sorts of material as per the nature of the project.

In addition to what is being provided on routine basis, such as:

Orphanage work program: It needs diapers; baby food etc on daily and regular basis and at times outings for children.

Street children education Project: It needs all school supplies like uniforms, books, games and refreshments etc.

Govt. school teaching program: It needs writing material, sports items, and competition/quiz expenses.
