Summer Volunteer and India Expedition Program 2020

Summer vacations, time to have some fun and make the best out of your summer break. Some of you might still be pondering upon your options. Well, think no further, a volunteering trip sounds about right, isn’t it? A perfect blend of volunteer work and travel can be quite beneficial and productive for you.

At Sankalp, we have very wisely designed 3 weeks Summer Volunteer Program 2020 so that you can enjoy your summer break while doing volunteering work in India. High school/ college/ university students or the gap year travelers, anyone who is interested and looking forward to doing something meaningful during their summer vacations, should join our summer volunteer program. The participants will work closely with local people, helping them towards the upliftment of children of the deprived society.

Day 01, Saturday - Jaipur, India Arrival

We will pick you up from the Jaipur International Airport on the starting date; you can arrive anytime.

Our driver meet at airport then moves to the volunteer house, Jaipur.

Day 02, Sunday - Program Orientation

After breakfast, all participants will get an extensive introduction to the program. This will help you gain an understanding on the entire volunteer and travel activities.

After the orientation free to explore the neighborhood.

Day 03 to 07, Mon to Fri - Volunteering with local NGO

Volunteer work begins on Day 3, you will work at your asigned volunteer project. The evenings are free to explore and experience this world heritage city.

A complimentary yoga class in morning hour 06:00 AM to 07:00 AM during the week is also provided in volunteer house itself.

Day 08, Saturday - Jaipur Sightseeing

After lunch Visit to Monkey Temple, Birla Temple, In the evening around 6 PM, we take you for a welcome dinner at a village resort, where you can enjoy live folk music, traditional Rajasthani dinner and much more.

Day 09, Sunday - Visit Pushkar - Feast of colors

Visit the Holy city of India and enjoy the exotic view to lakes in the center of city, have fun with camel ride in desert and then will take you to Savitri Temple, by cable car, finish your day trip with sunset view there and drive back to Jaipur.

Day 10 to 14 - Volunteer Work

Monday till Friday you will work at your volunteer project.

Day 15, Saturday - Visit Agra, City of Taj Mahal

The one week long India expedition begins in Agra, the most beautiful wonders of the world. After breakfast, drive to Agra by car, post lunch check in at the hotel and rest for couple of hours. The evening will proceeds to visiting Agra Fort, markets and back to hotel. On the next day early morning (6:00 AM) you make visit to the Taj Mahal!

Day 16, Sunday - The Taj Mahal

Well, the monument of love finally welcomes you to its stunning view. Post the memorable sightseeing experience at the Taj Mahal, back to hotel and enjoy the breakfast and then travel back to Jaipur.

Day 17, Monday - Travel To Amritsar

Experience overnight journey by Indian train to Amritsar from Jaipur. After arrival on the next morning, transfer to pre booked hotel.

Day 18, Tuesday - Visit the Border & Golden Temple

Make the most of your free time in Amritsar by tasting the local food.

We start at 03:00 PM and move towards the India – Pakistan International Border to see t the flags ceremony, also known as the Beating Retreat ceremony. As a foreigner, all you need to carry your passport.

After attending the ceremony, we will head back towards the city and will visit the beautiful and sacred Golden Temple which is the biggest Sikh pilgrimage in the world.

While you are at the temple, don’t forget to taste the delicious Langar.

Day 19, Wednesday - Drive to Dharamshala

Post breakfast drive to Dharamshala by car, on the way enjoy the enchanting and beautiful land landscapes. Reach the basecamp and stay overnight.

Day 20, Thursday - Trekking Adventure

One of the exciting highlights of the trip is trekking in the Himalayas. You will head towards base camp from where you will take up the 9 KM long Triund trek. Lunch and bottled water will be given before starting the trip, camping and dinner overnight. A moderately difficult trip, the exhaustion you'll have when climbing will be totally worthy once you get the view of the beautiful Himalayan snow clad mountains.

Trekking Schedule

  • Trekking adventure begin from the trekking base camp at 08:30 AM.
  • Trek throughout day, with frequent breaks for water, tea, packed lunch.
  • Reach at Triund (mid-way point) afternoon and take Lunch.
  • Reach at mountain's summit at Ilaka Glassier and continue trekking onwards to Snow Line.
  • Trek downwards; back to Triund and dinner.

Day 21, Friday - Return to base camp after The Trek

Friday morning after having your breakfast, you will return to basecamp. Take rest during the day time and then visit again have a small trek to nearby waterfall.

Day 22, Saturday - Mcleodganj Sightseen

Saturday morning, post breakfast visit Mcleodganj (Dharamshala) to see the beautiful markets, well known temple of Dalai Lama, and visit another waterfall known as Bhagsu. Back to the base camp before sunset and enjoy another delicious dinner at basecamp.

Day 23, Sunday - Travel back to Jaipur

Post breakfast, drive back to Amritsar to catch the train to Jaipur.

Day 24, Monday - Arrival in Jaipur

Reach Jaipur around 10:30 AM, rest at the volunteer house.

Day 25, Tuesday - Departure / Checkout

Travel back home or free for individual plans, drop-off to Jaipur airport will be provided.

Jaipur is the capital city of the northern Indian state of Rajasthan. Jaipur is one of the most vibrant and colourful cities in India, where you find a mixture of traditional roots and as well the impact of modern globalization. The pink city, which is an often-used name for Jaipur, is no exception. Forts, palaces and Havelis are be found at several places; especially in the old city, which is surrounded by pink walls, hence the name.

We provide the opportunity to work in several Volunteer Programs in Jaipur. The orphan childcare and street children education programs are situated within the city limits of Jaipur, rest of the programs are in rural locations within a range of 25 km of Jaipur city.

Arrival and Pickup

Our driver will be awaiting your arrival at the airport. You can find him in the arrival hall, past immigration/ customs/ baggage claim, with a placard displaying your name.

Orientation

Next day of your arrival, we will organize program orientation where you will gain an understanding of the entire volunteer program that you chose, introduction to rules and regulations of the organization, Indian history, its culture, and traditions.

On working days, summer volunteers get up and make their breakfast before heading out to their volunteer sites. Our staff provides daily transport by tuk-tuk to and from the volunteer site of their choice. At the volunteer site, they spend approximately 4-5 hours. Lunch is included and gets served at 1 pm after returning to the volunteer house. Afternoons provide volunteers the opportunity to explore Jaipur and learn about the local culture and customs. Evening meals provide another exciting chance to enjoy tasty and healthy Indian food provided by our staff cooks.

During Volunteering

The summer program volunteers are provided accommodation in our volunteer house which is an independent, safe and secure multi-stored building owned by the organization. The center of Jaipur is just 30 minutes away by Auto Rickshaw. The house has 3 floors and contains 8 shared AC bedrooms attaching with washrooms. All washrooms have a shower and a western toilet. There are a kitchen and a living room on each floor. The cook serves quality Indian food to the volunteers. UV treated & Ozonized water is also provided in the home, which is clean and safe to drink. Daily lunch and dinner are included.

During Travel

The summer volunteers will be provided star 3/4 start hotel accommodation sharing with other volunteers. The participants may have meals of their own choice by paying tab amount at their own. Mostly breakfast is provided by the hotels.

At Sankalp Volunteer, we make safety a high priority for every abroad volunteer and staff member who joins our program. Our program has been running for several years and we have had the great joy in welcoming hundreds of volunteers into our programs. You can trust us because we have extensive experience in caring for and protecting all of our volunteers for many years. We provide safety within the house and at the program locations, transportation, and any emergencies that may arise.

We do not conduct any program that could endanger the safety of any volunteer or staff member in any possible way. We are very proud of our ongoing commitment and provision of safety for all who join our team. In the past 8 years, we have had hundreds of volunteers within the age group of 16-65 years of age, with a maximum of 30 volunteers at the house, with no miss-happening ever.

To continue our priority and contract with safety, our organization maintains rules and regulations. For your own and other's personal safety, we request our volunteers follow our rules properly.

Age Limit: 16 Years +

Qualification - Volunteers must participate in this program with an open mind, giving heart, and flexibility to work with different age ranges of children.
